Rachel Carson, a child of the Allegheny Valley, was a writer and an ecologist. Homestead

The birthplace and childhood home of Rachel Carson is a registered National Landmark of Historic Places. The 100 year-old homestead sits in a suburban setting in Springdale, PA, overlooking the Allegheny River.

Once the renovations are complete, visitors will once again be able to tour the four room home where the Carsons lived from 1906 to 1930 and see the spring house, gardens and woodland trail.

Visitor Center

The Rachel Carson Homestead is expanding! Soon we will be announcing the location and hours of the new Homestead Visitor Center, which will be open during and after the completion of the house renovations. The Visitor Center will house exhibits and a museum shop where  Rachel Carson’s books, memorabilia and local art will be available for purchase.
